“ Ethnographic film festivals are almost non-existent in the Asia-Pacific region, with the exception of events in Taiwan and Vietnam, but a new Festival called APERTURE: Asia Pacific International Ethnographic Documentary Festival, hopes to address this situation.

On Friday October 25th APERTURE Festival had its official Festival Program Launch Party at The Hub.

It was a resounding success with media partners, Pozible supporters, APERTURE Fest Ambassadors, Filmmakers and the APERTURE team in full attendance to celebrate our successful Pozible Campaign and the countdown to the Festival.

Running for three days (21-23 November) at the University of Melbourne, APERTURE Festival is the first ethnographic documentary festival in Australia and worldwide with an Asia Pacific focus.
Over 30 films will be on shown at the inaugural APERTURE Festival from over 15 countries across the Asia Pacific, including 4 world premieres and numerous Australian and Melbourne premieres. The festival also includes international speakers, photography exhibition and multi media installation. APERTURE Festival is not to be missed!

As we near closer to the festival date (November 22-23 2013) we are in full planning mode! As we have announced on facebook and twitter we are now offering exciting $1000 award from Awesome Foundation Melbourne. The Foundation provides these grants with no strings attached each month to projects and claims no ownership over the projects it supports. We are so grateful to receive this grant and are pleased to announce that we will be awarded this $1000 grant to one lucky filmmaker at the APERTURE festival!
Therefore we have decided to extend the deadline date for submission until August 26th 2013 – postmarked! So, as long as you email your online submission by August 26th and let us know that your DVDs will be arriving, we will still except your submissions!

APERTURE Asia Pacific International Ethnographic Documentary Festival is interested in documentary films with ethnographic orientation that deal with a variety of issues concerning the complexity of cultural, social and political life of individuals and communities from the Asia Pacific region. We are accepting ethnographic documentaries of any duration and made in any year of production, which are either made by filmmakers from the Asia Pacific region or about the region.
